Happy Valentines Day! What better way to spend the holiday than with your significant other exploring some of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world. I may shed some personal bias, but here is my take on what the Top 10 most romantic cities in the world are in no particular order.
Known as the Paris of the East, Budapest is a captivating city running along the memorizing Danube River. Between it’s rich history, unique culture, and Gothic architecture, Budapest makes for the perfect romantic getaway whether you are booking a dinner cruise along the Danube, taking a dip in the Thermal Baths, or sipping wine at Fisherman’s Bastion.
Set as the scene to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, Verona is the perfect romantic getaway. About a 2 hour train ride from Milan, Verona is situated perfectly in the North Eastern part of Italy and close to many other Italian towns. There is plenty of shopping, history, and sites to see along the river. Soon you will find yourself getting wonderfully lost through the cobblestone streets.
Highly underrated, Lisbon is a gorgeous coastal town that reminds me of a quaint combination of both San Francisco and Brazil. The fresh seafood, street trolleys, and colorful tiles make Lisbon one of a kind. It is easy to find yourself at the top of many lookouts, admiring where the water meets this unique city’s streets. Lisbon is also known for it’s famous Pastel de nata, a delicious egg tart pastry. Visit the Pasteis de Belem bakery for the best Patstel de nata!
Greece speaks for itself as far as breathtaking views are concerned. With warm weather, crisp salty air, and fresh Mediterranean food, Greece is the ideal couple’s retreat. Take a dip into the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea or live like a local and hire a vespa to maneuver around the island. If you are visiting Oia, you can even take a donkey ride down the hills and around the blue capped houses.
Whether you are travelling to find a relaxing retreat or an adventure of a lifetime, Bali is a paradise that calls upon all kinds of people everywhere. The Balinese themselves are some of the kindest individuals in the world and love sharing their culture with others. Experiencing Bali is a surprise for the senses, with the freshest, tropical fruit and Indonesian spices. Boasting some of the best diving in the world, Bali is the perfect paradise for couples seeking everything from adventure and culture to spiritual retreats and beach resorts.
London, United Kingdom
London is a brilliant city beaming with individuals from all parts of the world. It is an incredibly diverse place which makes it unique in its own way. Apart from being home to the longest living British sovereign, London has many different boroughs to explore with your significant other. Start by heading for a stroll in Hyde Park. Then make your way off towards South Kensington and Knightsbridge for window shopping at Harrods. There are many other parts to explore in London like the South Bank area along the Thames River, the Parliament buildings, street markets like Borough Market, Nottinghill, and more.
Banff, Calgary, Canada
For the more outdoorsy type, Banff is the perfect romantic getaway. With every twist and turn, you find yourself surrounded by the majestic Canadian Rockies. I find that regardless of the time of year you visit, Banff will take your breath away. There are plenty of affordable resorts in the area as well and the park is not too far from Calgary. Downtown Banff, Lake Louise, and Moraine Lake will be the highlight of your trip. Don’t forget to bring your camera!
Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Endless winding canals and vibrant tulips on nearly every street corner – need I say more to persuade you towards a romantic weekend? Amsterdam is home to famous artists such as Vincent van Gogh, historical figures like Anne Frank, and much more. It is also famously known for is bike population! Feel free to rent a bike with your loved one and delve into the narrow, flower lined streets.
New York, New York
Aside from the hustle and bustle of this notorious big city, New York City has an astonishing number of sweet spots for you and your significant other to indulge in. There are plenty of eclectic restaurants, amazing Broadway shows, and non-stop site seeing at every corner. If site seeing is not your thing, take a stroll or bike ride through Central Park. There is nothing you cannot do together in this Empire State.

Barcelona is the perfect combination of Spanish culture, foods, and architecture. It has some of the most renown architectural designs, with Antoni Gaudí’s work seen throughout the city. Visit the Sagrada Familia and Las Ramblas to get a full feel of Barcelona. Then stroll down the main shopping street and end your day sipping sangria on the beach.
